In wartime Zurich, Switzerland, German singer Willie (played by Hanna Schygulla) is in love with Jewish composer Robert Mendelsson (played by Giancarlo Giannini). Robert's father, Mendelsson, leads an underground organization that helps Jews escape Germany and opposes their relationship. He sets a trap to keep Willie in Germany, preventing her from returning to Zurich, in an attempt to separate the couple. Stranded in Germany, Willie can only make a living by singing, winning the affection of many Germans, including German officers. She even gets the chance to record music at a radio station, and her song "Lili Marleen" makes her the dream girl of all German soldiers. This song accompanies the soldiers on the front lines. Meanwhile, Robert, back in Switzerland, does not give up on their love; he secretly returns to Germany to reunite with Willie but is captured by the Nazis. How will Willie, deeply in love with Robert, leverage her fame in Germany to save her lover? What challenges will their love face? &*&vod_class: Drama, Romance, Music, War
