On New Year's Eve, the upscale hotel Avanti in Tokyo enters its most intense and busy moment as the countdown party approaches. Deputy manager Hiraichi Shindo (played by Hiroshi Abe), assistant Tokiko Shindo (played by Keiko Toda), cleaning lady Hana Takemoto (played by Takoko Matsumoto), and bellboy Kenji Oshino (played by Shingo Katori), among others, are all racing against time, preparing and organizing. Meanwhile, guests including the scandal-ridden congressman Fujita (played by Koichi Sato), the zoologist Hodata (played by Takuza Kado), who unexpectedly encounters a prostitute, the enka singer Tokugawa (played by Toshiyuki Nishida) who attempts suicide due to stress, and the ventriloquist Sakata who loses his duck partner, keep arriving with increasingly chaotic situations, along with a never-ending stream of small accidents, making the Avanti hotel unusually noisy. Just before the New Year arrives, the hotel's two worst hours begin as the countdown starts...
