Every morning, She Weihao and Huang Junxiu walk to the fresh fish market school in Tai Kok Tsui for classes. Their experiences reflect the lives of grassroots families, where “mutual care” is common. Dong Yufeng and Tan Zhizuo, born in the mainland, and even the most popular student with the boys, Huang Jiaqi, share similar stories: families came to Hong Kong for their children's futures, living in cramped rooms; but for the children, facing the sudden change in their growing environment and retracing another place’s identity and values—is it a worthy “investment”? An experience on television changed She Weihao's story. What does “family” mean to these children? What do the social “achievement” indicators and parents’ hopes for their children signify for them? If we explore what expectations children have towards their parents, adults, and even society, are the answers insignificant in the eyes of adults? Even living in unstable environments, children strive to demonstrate their vitality, something adults may be unwilling or unable to understand, reflecting the essence of “Zi Fei Yu, Yan Zhi Yu Zhi Le”. J and Jacky have been best friends and inseparable since they met in the first grade. Born in Hong Kong, J was raised single-handedly by his mother, who was a mainland Chinese. Together they shared a subdivided unit of no more than three meters wide. Every time J's mother had to go back to the mainland for “permit renewal”, she left him with Jacky’s family. However, J's life changed after he went on television one day...
