After many years of studying in Japan, Li Shutong (played by Pu Cunxin) finally returned to his beloved homeland, coinciding with the success of the Xinhai Revolution. He cheered for the republic and became the deputy editor-in-chief of the Pacific Daily's supplementary section, envisioning a bright future for the country. However, good times didn't last long; before long, the country fell into warlord chaos, and Li Shutong transformed from a stylish editor into a modest gentleman, making a living as a professor of art. During this time, he nurtured a group of future artistic masters such as Feng Zikai (played by Yin Zhi) and Liu Zhiping (played by Hu Guangzi). At this point, Li Shutong developed a strong interest in Buddhism, renouncing worldly life and adopting the name Master Hongyi. Master Hongyi and the president of Min Nan Buddhist Academy (played by Liu Weiming) both had grand aspirations; despite their different sects, they ultimately converged on the same path. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, even while suffering from severe illness, Master Hongyi persisted in the anti-Japanese rescue movement, composing songs to boost morale. On October 13, 1942, the great master passed away...
