This film is a collective debut during the rise of the Czech New Wave movement. Most of these individualistic directors graduated from the Prague Film School and aimed to break the Soviet film education model, attempting to depict the world they perceived with a fresh cinematic language. The diverse themes of these short films reflect the young directors' understanding of the world and their points of focus. The five directors are Jiří Menzel ("Closely Watched Trains"), Věra Chytilová ("Daisies"), Jan Němec ("Valerie and Her Week of Wonders"), Ewald Schorm, and Jaromil Jireš. They expressed their thoughts and filled their visuals with avant-garde and progressive spirit to the fullest extent possible in a repressive era, with their youth and enthusiasm.
