The story takes place in the beautiful and tranquil Moroccan village of Tazekka, where Ilyas (played by Olivier Sitruk) lives a life of dependency with his grandmother. Ilyas's greatest passion is cooking and memorizing recipes, and under his grandmother's guidance, he has nearly mastered every Moroccan dish. His enthusiasm and talent for food inspire a French chef passing through, and on the chef's suggestion, Ilyas decides to venture to the culinary capital of Paris. Thus, Ilyas leaves his grandmother in their hometown and sets out on his own. As an illegal immigrant, Ilyas cannot find a proper job in the foreign land and can only survive by taking on odd jobs. Meanwhile, news arrives from home that his grandmother is gravely ill, which causes Ilyas to question whether his choice was the right one.
