Biologist Dr. Seth (played by Paulo Costanzo) and his wife Polly (played by Jill Wagner) are driving to the suburbs for a getaway when they encounter another couple. Dennis (played by Shea Whigham) and Lace (played by Rachel Kerbs) are a pair of fugitives hoping to smuggle themselves into Mexico for a new life, but their car breaks down on the road. Consequently, Dennis hijacks Seth and Polly's car and takes them hostage. Polly, who is driving, accidentally runs over a strange creature, causing a flat tire. Everyone gets out to investigate, and Seth is astonished to find that the crushed animal still shows signs of life. In their panic, they flee to a gas station, only to quickly discover that they are surrounded by an unknown creature covered in spikes...
