In a remote village primary school in Iran, a group of children listens to the teacher in class. While checking homework, the teacher discovers that Mohsen has repeatedly not completed his assignments, and so he harshly criticizes him, saying that if it happens again, he will be expelled immediately. The teacher emphasizes to the students that this is to help them establish good habits. After school that day, the young boy Ahmad suddenly realizes that he has taken his deskmate Mohsen's notebook home. Understanding the teacher's gentle persuasion, Ahmad knows that this notebook is Mohsen's ticket to continue listening in class. In order to return the notebook to his deskmate, Ahmad hopes that his mother and grandfather can help him, but both attempts fail. Therefore, he sets off alone to the village across the mountain to find his deskmate and return the notebook. However, since he doesn't know where his deskmate lives, he encounters numerous obstacles and unimaginable difficulties... This film won the Art Film Award at the 42nd Cannes Film Festival.
