This film is adapted from the memoir of Lynn Barber, a journalist for The Sunday Times in the UK. In 1961, 16-year-old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is frustrated by her parents' constant nagging for her to excel in Latin and gain admission to Oxford, while her pursuit of a boy does not please her father, Jack (Alfred Molina). One rainy day, Jenny encounters the mature man David (Peter Sarsgaard), whose charm and demeanor deeply attract her. David and his friends frequently take Jenny to high-end bars, art auctions, and fancy restaurants, even persuading her parents to let her visit her dream city, Paris. Amidst the glamour, Jenny quickly falls in love, only to discover that the reality is far different from her dreams... The film won the Audience Award and the Cinematography Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, was nominated for the Dramatic Jury Prize, and received nominations for Best Actress (Carey Mulligan) at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards, as well as three Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress (Carey Mulligan), and Best Adapted Screenplay.
