Ambrose (Vincent Cassel) is a devout monk who has long vowed to surrender his body and soul entirely to God. He has his own unique understanding of doctrine, feeling that humanity pollutes God's existence every day. Martina deeply admires Ambrose, and her obedience stirs the beastly desires hidden within him. Once awakened, these desires become uncontrollable, leading Ambrose step by step toward the abyss. Antonia (Joséphine Japy) is a girl who often goes to the monastery to pray for her mother; her purity catches Ambrose's attention. In order to possess her body, he is willing to scheme to kill her mother. Ultimately, Ambrose's various crimes are discovered by a young nobleman.
