Anne (Anouk Aimee) and Jean (Jean-Louis Trintignant) were once a very loving couple. However, fate intervened, and their love ultimately did not blossom, leading to their separation. Fifty years have passed, and the now elderly Jean suffers from Alzheimer's disease, with severe symptoms that make him unrecognizable to his own daughter. The only person he remembers in his muddled mind is Anne. To alleviate his father's condition, Jean's son Antoine (Antoine Sire) tries to contact Anne, hoping she can visit to ease his father's longing. Unbeknownst to him, Anne also struggles to let go of their past relationship, and when they meet, the feelings they had repressed for years reignite.
