This is a continuation of the director's documentary series on public space in Chinese society... In the emergency room of a hospital in Guangzhou, the largest city in southern China, the crew spent about ten months there, following the 120 ambulances that rush through the city day and night, capturing various emergency stories on film. China has already become the world's second-largest economy, but the government still has to acknowledge that it is a populous developing country. With the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization, the contradiction of the social security system lagging far behind the pace of economic development has increasingly surfaced. In the emergency room, seemingly bizarre and absurd stories unfold in front of the camera. On one hand, we see many people who do not cherish their own lives, while on the other hand, we express a desire for a sound and effective medical security system. Over two thousand years ago, the Chinese philosopher Mencius proposed that the ideal "Great Unity" society should be one where "we respect the elderly and care for one another." In recent years, the "harmonious" society vigorously advocated by the Chinese government seems to derive from this. The ideal condition of society should allow everyone to live with dignity and then die with dignity. Finally, we would like to especially thank those ordinary Chinese people who allowed us to film them; during the editing process, we were unable to contact them one by one for their consent. Their stories have helped us better understand the society in which we live, and this film promises not to engage in any commercial operations.
