In China, most families struggle to face children who are gay, bisexual, or transgender. Many parents treat their children as their property, and fathers play an especially authoritative role in the family. Are terms like patriarchy, authoritarianism, and conservatism just names for dad? Four years ago, we shot "Walking with Rainbows," and now we have brought together six fathers and their families to share their stories. They come from different regions of China, with varied cultural backgrounds and life experiences, and they have had complex feelings about their children's coming out.
