This film tells a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set in the 19th century. The story takes place against the backdrop of the famous Mountain Meadows Massacre that occurred on September 11, 1857, in American history. A wagon train heading to California passes through southern Utah, where Mormons discover that some members of the group participated in the 1838 Haun's Mill massacre, which forcibly expelled Mormons from Missouri under an extermination order. They immediately decide to take revenge. They secretly ally with local Indian tribes to surround and ambush the wagon train, and in the name of God, they kill and execute 120 men and women, with only 17 children under the age of ten spared. Later, the Mormon leader John D. Lee, who was involved in the planning and execution, was sentenced to death, and 20 years later, the adopted son of Mormon leader Brigham Young was also sentenced to death. Due to the perspectives reflected in the film, this event remains controversial to this day. Two young people, one a Mormon and the son of a local Mormon bishop, the other the young daughter of the wagon train's pastor, immigrants from Arkansas to California, despite the deep hatred between their families and the stubborn views of society, develop a beautiful and touching love for each other, expressing their affection...
