Based on true events from 1930s England, a pastor named Linus (played by John Heffernan) is appointed as a locum vicar by the church. He moves into a mysterious manor with his wife Marian (played by Jessica Brown Findlay) and their daughter, little Alice. Not long after they settle into the house, strange occurrences unfold; they hear whispers at night and see the shadowy figure of a stranger in a cassock. Little Alice's behavior becomes increasingly odd, and as the disturbances escalate, Linus and Marian are left with no choice but to seek help from renowned paranormal expert Harry (played by Sean Harris).
