In a tranquil and peaceful village in southern China, Tang Ling (played by Walter Huston) is happily and busily living with his family. His two elder sons have married and started their own families, while the youngest son (played by Hurd Hatfield) is still filled with youthful passion. The wife of the second son, Xiao Yu (played by Katharine Hepburn), is a woman with a rebellious spirit who gains advanced knowledge and progressive thoughts through reading books. However, all of this is shattered by the Japanese invasion during the war, leading to a dramatic change in their lives. Faced with their devastated homeland, the young and brave female militia member Xiao Yu leads the villagers in a heroic struggle against the invaders. The film "Dragon Seed," produced by MGM in the United States and adapted from the novel of the same name by American writer Pearl S. Buck, who grew up in China, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Cinematography (Black and White) at the 17th Academy Awards in 1945. This film, which tells the story of the Chinese people's resistance to Japanese aggression, features Hollywood stars portraying Chinese farmers and showcases the brave struggle of the Chinese people in the anti-fascist war to the world.
