In order to commemorate those who died by his hand, Zatoichi continues to travel around the Sado area of the Four Provinces. During the journey, he is attacked by the horseback-riding Eigo, and once again, Zatoichi goes on a killing spree. Heartbroken, Zatoichi visits Eigo's sister, Koyuki, but Koyuki, knowing the full story, strikes at him with a knife. Zatoichi willingly takes the blow. Koyuki, originally kind-hearted, then tends to the injured Zatoichi and informs him that Eigo was ordered to assassinate him in order to pay off a debt.
