The flamboyant 70s in rock history, where bold elements such as sexiness, glamour, avant-garde, and radicalism were fused into a unique rock genre. The spokesperson for this rock revolution, Brian Slade (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers), captivated audiences at the time. However, in 1984, he faced an "assassination" during a performance, and the superstar fell from grace. Arthur (played by Christian Bale), a reporter for the London Pioneer, investigates his idol. In reflecting on the past, he uncovers a passionate but tumultuous relationship between Brian and American rock singer Kurt Wild (played by Ewan McGregor). Inspired by Kurt's music, Brian creates his own glamorous style and quickly rises to fame. The two spark each other’s creativity and become infatuated but eventually fall apart due to personality clashes. After losing Kurt, Brian, who was at the peak of his fame, begins to self-destruct, staging a "murder" performance... Arthur encounters the despondent Kurt in a bar, who seems possessed by Brian’s spirit as they both drown in nostalgia for him, while a strange emotion develops between them. This film was nominated for Best Costume Design at the 71st Academy Awards, and for the Best Artistic Contribution and Palm d'Or at the 51st Cannes Film Festival.
