In the early 1960s Hong Kong, Mr. Liu (played by Zhang Guozhu) was originally a writer, but due to "bad luck," he had to rely on writing mediocre martial arts and erotic novels to make a living. Reality was vastly different from the life Mr. Liu once pursued. The unavoidable hardships of life left Mr. Liu dejected, leading him to drink heavily day and night, trying to numb himself and escape reality. Although not young anymore, Mr. Liu remained like driftwood, constantly moving from place to place. Initially, in the small room he rented, he encountered the landlord's daughter, Sima Li (played by Guo Shan Hang), who was only seventeen and often tempted him, but after the landlord discovered their interactions, he was forced to move out. Many other women entered and exited Mr. Liu's life, including his confidante Zhang Lili (played by Jiang Mei Yi) and the young dancer Yang Lu (played by Jiang Zu Man)... How will Mr. Liu, numbed by sex and alcohol, save himself? This film is adapted from the novel of the same name, "The Drunkard," by Hong Kong writer Liu Yichang.
