From then on, he casts aside all worldly matters and immerses himself in the unpredictable black-and-white world of Go. On the eve of the full outbreak of the war, Shi Zhaoguang, now released from prison, boards a ship to Shanghai with his son Shitou (played by Zou Chenliang). Along the way, they encounter the arrogant Japanese Go player Takenouchi Hideo (played by Shen Xiaohai), who boasts of having defeated all opponents in China and looks down on the Chinese people. With a little guidance from Shi Zhaoguang, the Chinese tourists on the ship display remarkable Go skills, forcing Takenouchi to retreat step by step as he realizes he is up against a master. Just then, news of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident arrives, filling the hearts of the Japanese on the ship with murderous intent...
