The story takes place in Los Angeles, USA, where McCusick (played by Mel Gibson) is a drug smuggler. However, he has grown tired of living on the edge and promises his friend Leonard (played by Arye Gross) that he will do one last big deal and then retire. Frisia (played by Kurt Russell) appears to be McCusick's friend but is actually an undercover narcotics officer who has been investigating McCusick in hopes of finding evidence of his crimes. During this process, both men fall for the beautiful and seductive restaurant owner, Valenna (played by Michelle Pfeiffer). News of this big deal soon leaks out, and the notorious Mexican Carlos (played by Raul Julia) catches wind of it and wants to get a piece of the action.
