Fifty years ago, on the snow-covered Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, a group of young people drove wooden stakes into the ice and snow. They started a dream of building a railway to the roof of the world. But the dream was curtailed by harsh natural conditions, and a young surveyor was forever lost in the snow-capped mountains... Twenty years later, his descendant Yu Mingyuan, along with the railway team, once again launched an assault on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. They laid the railway at the foot of the Kunlun Mountains with their blood and lives, but had to stop again. The Kunlun Mountains mercilessly swallowed Yu Mingyuan's comrades and buried his first love... Another twenty-four years passed, and a mature Yu Mingyuan led thousands of troops back to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for the final battle of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. What lay before them were the unbearable effects of high altitude, severe weather, and world-class challenges of frozen ground, while threats like landmines, landslides, and earthquakes loomed over them. The arrival of altitude sickness expert Chu Ranran strengthened their personal safety, and advanced equipment like hyperbaric oxygen chambers greatly improved efficiency. What surprised Yu Mingyuan even more was that Chu Ranran looked exactly like his fallen first love... The film showcases the tragic journey of three generations of railway workers in China, highlighting the many ups and downs of building the world's most challenging Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and ultimately realizing the magnificent dream of the Chinese people spanning ninety years.
