Set against the backdrop of a reading classroom, the story follows Takashi Hōba, a university mathematics professor who is unpopular with students due to his poor communication skills, leading to his wife Nao (MIMURA) leaving him with their child. One day, his department head orders him to attend a "Speaking Classroom," where he meets instructor Kyoko Esaki (Kumiko Asou). When Takashi expresses his desire to learn from this seemingly impressive woman, she bluntly tells him he is a "boring man." Despite intervention from Kyoko's superior, Sakurada (Kyōhei Shibata), the two part on bad terms. However, a few days later, the classroom reopens, this time at a small reading class outside the city.
