The story takes place in the early 20th century, focusing on the second son of the Akiyama family from Fukui, Tokuzō (played by Takeru Satoh). Unlike his older brother (played by Ryohei Suzuki), who becomes an enviable lawyer, Tokuzō is full of bright ideas but lacks perseverance in anything he does, much to the disappointment of his father, Shūzō (played by Tetta Sugimoto). After much difficulty, his father arranges a marriage for him to a woman named Toshiko (played by Hana Kinokuni). Initially, Tokuzō works hard and shares a romantic bond with his wife, but he eventually becomes dissatisfied with his mundane life. He decides to follow Sergeant Tanabe (played by Hidemichi Itō) in the army to learn cooking, even going so far as to sever ties with his father-in-law to move to Tokyo and study culinary arts. During this period, characters like Usami (played by Kaoru Kobayashi) and Iogaki (played by Masaya Katō) play significant roles in changing Tokuzō's fate. He dedicates himself to mastering cooking skills, moving towards a bright future… This film is adapted from a novel written by Hisashi Sugimori based on the story of Tokuzō Akiyama, the head chef of the Imperial Household Agency.
