The film is set in the Joseon Dynasty, bringing the audience to a chaotic era ravaged by war, as it unfolds a gripping journey between two childhood friends turned enemies. Cheon-yeong is a skillful slave who struggles to break free from the unjust shackles of servitude, while Jong-ryeo is Cheon-yeong's master, hailing from one of the most influential military families in Joseon. Kang Dong-won plays the commoner Cheon-yeong, who fights desperately to change his fate of being a slave. Park Jung-min portrays Jong-ryeo, the heir of the renowned military family in Joseon, who takes Cheon-yeong in and later joins the royal army, becoming a right-hand man to King Seonjo.
