In the 1970s, before China had fully opened up, four documentary masters from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan came to China, capturing various aspects of life in China and the lives of the Chinese people with their lenses, leaving behind four world-shocking documentary films—"China" (Italy), "The Foolish Old Man Who Moved Mountains" (France), "From Mao Zedong to Mozart" (USA), and "Shanghai New Wind" (Japan). These films not only allowed the world to gain a broad understanding of China for the first time but also provided Chinese people with a precious resource to reflect on history and recall their ancestors. Forty years have passed; what changes have taken place in China? Can those ordinary people who appeared in the films still be found? Today, four international friends from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan have come to China once again. The previous imagery gave them a vague understanding of China; now, they decide to see with their own eyes the tremendous changes that have occurred in China today. Remarkably, they have rekindled connections with those ordinary people featured in the past films, and through close observation and authentic documentation, they naturally present the changes in China over the past forty years. We have recorded the exploration journey of these four seekers in China through a five-episode documentary over the course of a year. The transition between old and new footage reveals the power of time, and the immense transformation becomes apparent in this seemingly effortless yet clever shift, provoking reflection and contemplation.
