Mr. Chamuel (Robert Redford) is an old carpenter who loves to tell children a story about a dragon that lives in the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Chamuel claims he has witnessed the existence of the dragon. His daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), dismisses this story that her father has told a million times, believing it to be complete nonsense. One day, Grace meets a boy named Peter (Oakes Fegley) who tells her that he has no family or home, and his only friend is a flying dragon named Elliott. Peter's narrative reminds Grace of her father's story, strikingly similar in many ways. To verify Peter's words, Grace embarks on a journey to find the dragon.
