Beautiful middle-class woman Séverine (Catherine Deneuve) has a happy family. Her husband Pierre (Jean Sorel), a handsome and gentle surgeon, earns a good income, but he is unable to satisfy her sexually. Due to her status, Séverine can only find pleasure in fantasizing about being abused and humiliated. Unable to endure this any longer, she turns to prostitution, selling her body only during her husband's office hours (from 2 PM to 5 PM), earning the title "Belle de Jour." From her initial resistance to complete liberation, Séverine finds immense satisfaction and pleasure. During this time, she meets professional killer Marcel (Pierre Clémenti), who is attracted to the beauty and mystery of the Belle de Jour, drawing them both into a chaotic blend of reality and fantasy...
