How does violence affect the order of life and how do different people navigate the thin line between good and evil? Tom (Viggo Mortensen) is an ordinary family man in a small town, struggling to make a living with his small shop. One day, he encounters a group of robbers, and to save his employee's life, Tom bravely takes them down. His heroic act becomes a topic of discussion among the townsfolk. Media coverage of the incident exposes Tom's family to the public eye. Did this event change the original Tom, or did it bring him back to his true self? This remains unclear because Tom's past gradually comes to the surface. A mob boss shows up with his henchmen, which means Tom can no longer hide his past connection with violence. His wife, Edie (Maria Bello), becomes furious upon discovering his secret; even worse, Tom sees the shadow of violence beginning to envelop his son. Once again, violence has completely infiltrated their previously peaceful life.
