Recently, British TV writer Jimmy McGovern, who won an Emmy for "The Street," announced that he will create a seven-episode series called "Banished" for BBC. Russell Tovey will star alongside MyAnna Buring, Julian Rhind-Tutt, and David Wenham in this series, which tells the story of a group of criminals exiled to Australia by Britain in the 18th century. A synopsis from BBC describes the series as focusing on the lives, loves, friendships, and struggles for survival of a group of exiled criminals, as well as the soldiers who oversee them in this territory. In the series, Russell Tovey plays the lead criminal who, after arriving in Australia, strives to become a leader with the help of other criminals, conveying his idealistic beliefs while facing severe conflict with a brutal army major. This drama is set to begin filming in Australia in April 2014 and is expected to air on BBC2 early next year.
