"Emma" is Jane Austen's last work published during her lifetime. This version is the 2009 BBC mini-series. Emma Woodhouse (Romola Garai) is wealthy, intelligent, beautiful, articulate, and self-assured. She has decided not to marry but has an interesting hobby—playing matchmaker. However, her matchmaking efforts often rely on whimsical or impulsive judgments, usually ending in failure. Emma's interference in others' marriages causes dissatisfaction for her old friend Knightley (Jonny Lee Miller). He advises her that couples should manage their own romantic affairs, as outside interference only complicates things. This prompts Emma to reflect on her behavior. As she spends more time with Knightley, Emma discovers his admirable qualities. Ultimately, while Emma does not successfully match up anyone else, she falls in love with Knightley and they end up together.
