Rosencrantz (Gary Oldman) and Guildenstern (Tim Roth) are minor characters from Shakespeare's renowned play "Hamlet." This film examines the tragedy through their actions. On their way back to Denmark's Elsinore, they encounter many strange occurrences, such as Rosencrantz's coin always landing on the same side and meeting a peculiar theater troupe. They arrive at the palace and meet the king and queen, who ask them to get close to Prince Hamlet to understand his melancholy. They recommend the theater troupe to the prince, who then uses them to stage a play about fratricide, treachery, and marriage, which greatly displeases the king. Consequently, the king orders Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to secretly take the prince to England for execution, but Hamlet accidentally discovers their correspondence, learning of the plot against him... This film is an adaptation of the play of the same name.
