In an alleyway of old Beijing, there lives the unassuming master of calligraphy and painting, Qi Gong (played by Ma Enran). He and his elderly wife (played by Wang Fulai) treat each other with respect and live a simple, peaceful life. However, in an era filled with turmoil, ordinary individuals find it difficult to remain untouched by the storm. Qi Gong, of banner nationality, faces numerous troubles during the surging waves of the Cultural Revolution. The Red Guards can storm into his home to search for "counter-revolutionary" items, but fortunately, there are always those with a deep appreciation for traditional culture who secretly offer assistance. Throughout the movement, Qi Gong often reminisces about his early days of learning painting, the conversations he had with teachers and friends, and the companionship he shared with his wife. These memories evoke a deep sense of nostalgia.
