The story takes place in the southwestern border area during the early period of liberation. One day, Li Honghe (played by Wu Qingzhe) discovers the wounded military doctor Chen Yuandi (played by Wang Xuebing), who has been attacked by bandits, and rescues him, taking him to Chen's hometown, Xitoucun, to recuperate.
