Nadine (played by Hailee Steinfeld) has been an eccentric and reclusive girl since childhood, often bullied by her classmates. Krista (played by Haley Lu Richardson) seems to be a light that brightens Nadine's life; from the moment they met, they were inseparable, sharing joy and secrets. As time goes by and the two girls grow into high school, their feelings for each other remain unchanged. Nadine's brother Darian (played by Blake Jenner) is handsome, sunny, and cheerful, making Nadine's cynicism and maturity seem all the more out of place. However, Nadine doesn't mind, as she has Krista’s friendship. One day, Nadine is shocked to discover that Krista and Darian are lying on the same bed. At the same time, Nadine falls for a boy named Nick (played by Alexander Calvert), but she finds it impossible to break into his social circle.
