Nansen West (Samuel L. Jackson), a drill sergeant known for his strictness at a U.S. military training base, has a notoriously tense relationship with his trainees due to his ruthless nature. Tom Hardy (John Travolta), a former disciple of West who harbors resentment towards him, is now a U.S. Food and Drug Administration official. The two are brought together by a mysterious case of disappearance. This bizarre incident, which occurred in the jungles of Panama, resulted in six trainee cadets and West vanishing without a trace after a hurricane. Hardy is tasked to team up with military investigator Lieutenant Julia (Connie Nielsen) to look into the matter. However, as the investigation unfolds, the testimonies of the only two surviving cadets, Dunbar (Brian Van Holt) and Kendall (Giovanni Ribisi), are vastly different. More and more lies and deceit come to light, raising the question of who is lying and what terrible truths lie behind the facade?
