The protagonist of the story is a communist who has been in exile from the Soviet Union for a long time. After the fall of the Greek military junta, he can finally return to his homeland in the twilight years of his life. When he returns to familiar places filled with memories, confronting family and friends with such a contradictory and ambiguous identity, he feels the estrangement of human emotions, blindness towards the future, and a low degree of identification and indifference towards his country. People try to unburden the weight of memory but fear losing their way when they lighten their load. In such an environment, he realizes that he has truly lost his nationality. Ultimately, he meets the lover he has been separated from for many years floating on the shores of the Aegean Sea.
