In 1941, the Japanese occupied Shanghai and fully launched their invasion of China, exacerbating the suffering of the Chinese people. Many incidents occurred during the Sino-Japanese War, with the Japanese capturing groups of Chinese and sending them to prisoner camps. Each person in the camps represented a Chinese family on the brink of destruction, experiencing separation, loss, and suffering. During these difficult times, the Chinese people remained resolute because they believed that victory would ultimately belong to them. On a stormy night, in a Japanese prisoner camp, the Japanese soldiers were urgently mobilized to pursue Wang Shirong, a young anti-Japanese activist from Fujian, who was rescued by Jiang Chuanxian, the second son of the Jiang family. At the same time, Jiang Chuanxian's wife, Qiu Xia, was experiencing a difficult labor. With the help of Jiang Chuanxian's elder brother, Jiang Chuanrong, and younger brother, Jiang Chuanxiao, the child was finally born and named Yaozu. However, at that time, Chuanxian was forced to go abroad to work as a laborer. Through their eldest daughter, Xiaoyun, second daughter, Xiaohui, and third son, Yaoguang, Qiu Xia learned about the situation. Exhausted from the difficult labor, Qiu Xia chased after Jiang Chuanxian, who was about to be forced onto a ship, and ultimately collapsed after a painful separation. The originally peaceful family was torn apart, causing great sorrow for the Jiang family. At this time, the third brother, Chuanxiao, whose wife, Fang Meilian, wanted to propose a division of the family property to protect herself and not bear the responsibility for Qiu Xia and the four children. The daily discord between Meilian and their sister-in-law, Xiuzhi, played into this as Xiuzhi selfishly agreed. Additionally, the often submissive Chuanrong, under the encouragement of Chuanxiao, reluctantly accepted this proposal despite his strong opposition. With Qiu Xia’s physical condition gradually recovering, she resolved to become self-reliant and work as a female laborer. While working, Qiu Xia encountered the wounded Wang Shirong, who was being pursued by the Japanese, and helped him escape. The two formed a bond, but Shirong was unaware that Qiu Xia was the wife who saved his life. Meilian was caught having an affair with her first love, Cheng Gang, and when Qiu Xia accidentally discovered this, Meilian colluded with Cheng Gang to accuse Qiu Xia of being unfaithful. With no recourse to defend herself, Qiu Xia was cruelly expelled from the Jiang family and forced to separate from her four children. Seizing the opportunity, Meilian proposed to split the family assets and sent Qiu Xia's four children to be raised by others. Xiuzhi, who had taken a liking to the fourth son, Yaozu, agreed to keep him, while offering to give up the others. The conversation between the two was overheard by Xiaohui and Yaoguang, who secretly slipped away to find their mother but accidentally got separated at the train station. Xiaoyun, following a note left by Xiaohui, went to the station but found nothing and was deceived by human traffickers, ultimately being sold to a brothel proprietress named Fengzhu. Xiaoyun endured immense suffering, but thanks to the protection of the proprietress's nephew, Ge Ming, she was able to survive, though she was still forced into a life of debauchery. Meanwhile, Meilian, in an effort to seize all the Jiang family assets, incited Cheng Gang to make Yaozu disappear. Cheng Gang, feeling a moment of compassion, abandoned Yaozu in the outskirts, where he was fortuitously picked up by a passing scavenger woman, who renamed him Ading. From then on, the four children of Qiu Xia became scattered far and wide! Upon receiving news of the children's disappearance, Qiu Xia hurried back to the Jiang family, holding onto a glimmer of hope as she searched for her children. On the way, she ran into Cheng Gang, who, feeling anxious and guilty, pushed her off a cliff out of fear of being recognized. Qiu Xia suffered a severe head injury and was rescued by Wang Shirong, who took her to the hospital. However, after waking up, Qiu Xia found that she had lost all her memory and could only hysterically ask about her children, ultimately being forcibly sent to a mental institution! After losing contact with Qiu Xia, the power struggle between Meilian and Xiuzhi intensified. Under the instigation of their respective wives, Chuanrong and Chuanxiao finally fell out and separated the family. At this time, Meilian's affair with Cheng Gang was discovered by Chuanxiao, who suffered a stroke in a fit of rage. Meilian, heartlessly abandoning her husband at Chuanrong's doorstep, ran away with all the family assets along with Cheng Gang! Six years later, Qiu Xia was still confined in the mental institution, with only Wang Shirong visiting her regularly, leading to a deepening affection between them over time. One rainy night, a lightning storm triggered a surge of memories in Qiu Xia. Shirong not only took Qiu Xia away from the mental institution but also promised to take care of her, and the two became close friends. Upon returning to the Jiang family, Qiu Xia found everything had changed drastically. Chuanrong, burdened with enormous gambling debts, had fled with Xiuzhi, and Chuanxiao had also been sent to a nursing home. Her four children were missing, and with the comfort and help of Wang Shirong, Qiu Xia, once devastated, gathered her spirits and embarked on a long journey to search for her lost children. At this time, Xiaoyun had grown into a graceful young lady, renamed Xianglan by the brothel proprietress, and was being forced to start entertaining clients. Xianglan (Xiaoyun) resisted fiercely but was imprisoned. Unable to bear Xianglan's suffering, Ge Ming took advantage of the night to help her escape. Longing for her mother, Xianglan decided to work while searching for her mother and siblings. The second daughter, Xiaohui, had been adopted by a family surnamed Li and renamed Li Yujuan. Deeply believing that her mother had been unfaithful years ago, Li Yujuan (Xiaohui) was determined to erase her past identity. The third son, Yaoguang, was adopted by a wealthy merchant and renamed Gao Tianci. The merchant’s excessive pampering made Tianci (Yaoguang) stubborn and rebellious, and having befriended some bad company, he went onto a path of crime that turned him into a little gangster. The fourth son, Yaozu, lived a poor life with the scavenger woman, but despite his young age, Ading (Yaozu) was very well-behaved and understanding. However, as the grandmother fell gravely ill, she entrusted Ading (Yaozu) to a distant relative, Jinshui, to make a living through performing arts. Jinshui took Ading (Yaozu) around to make ends meet. One day, during a dispute between Jinshui, Ading, and Wang Shirong and Qiu Xia, Ading was running a high fever. Seeing the child so similar in age to her own, Qiu Xia took care of him tenderly, and in the process, their bond grew as close as mother and son, although Qiu Xia was unaware that Ading was her long-missed son, Yaozu. Jinshui, moved by Qiu Xia's quest to find her children, agreed to assist her, and the four of them traveled together. As this was happening, Tianci was being bullied by delinquent boys, and Li Yujuan came to his rescue, making them good friends, unaware that Li Yujuan was actually his second sister. Through an unexpected connection, Jinshui and Wang Shirong became friends, but both fell in love with Qiu Xia. Shirong's father and Tianci’s adopted father had once been business partners. This connection allowed Qiu Xia to meet Tianci, and from him, she discovered that he was actually her third son, Yaoguang! Initially, Tianci misunderstood that his mother had remarried, viewing him as a child of another man. His adoptive parents were reluctant to return him to Qiu Xia, but ultimately, Qiu Xia's deep love for her children moved everyone, and Tianci was the first to recognize her and became her friend. Li Yujuan also realized that Qiu Xia was her biological mother, while Qiu Xia learned that Li Yujuan was her second daughter, Xiaohui. But Li Yujuan, rebellious and vain, insisted on not acknowledging her. At this time, Xianglan was seized and taken back to the brothel, while Qiu Xia discovered that Xianglan was her eldest daughter, Xiaoyun! Initially, Qiu Xia found it hard to accept that her daughter had fallen into such a lifestyle. With Ge Ming's help, the mother and daughter finally recognized each other. Qiu Xia, Wang Shirong, and Jinshui pooled their resources to redeem Xianglan, only to hear that she had been sold to a wealthy merchant who was actually Cheng Gang, the very man responsible for separating Qiu Xia from her children and making her lose her memory, leading to her confinement in a mental institution! After succeeding in business, Cheng Gang wanted to take Xianglan as his concubine but was unaware that she was Qiu Xia’s eldest daughter, Xiaoyun. This act also incited jealousy and murderous intent in Fang Meilian… Having found three of her children, Qiu Xia worried about her fourth son's whereabouts, unaware that her child, Yaozu, had long been by her side under the name Ading. Meanwhile, after years of absence, Chuanxian returned with his wife, having survived. Due to years of infertility, Chuanxian planned to take away Qiu Xia's children on this trip. Just as she experienced the pain of losing her husband, would Qiu Xia again face the possibility of losing her children's love and strength? In the face of Jinshui and Wang Shirong's pursuit, where would Qiu Xia's feelings lie? When would Qiu Xia finally discover that Ading was her son, Yaozu? The suffering of the times had triggered this family tragedy—"Family Destruction"!
