Sun Wukong (Stephen Chow) escorts Tang Seng (Law Kar Ying) on his journey to the West to obtain scriptures. Along the way, he conspires with the Bull Demon King to kill Tang Seng and steals the Moonlight Treasure Box. This act prompts Guanyin to consider eliminating him. At Tang Seng's request, Sun Wukong is sentenced to be reincarnated as a human after five hundred years to atone for his sins. Five hundred years later, Sun Wukong transforms into the bandit leader Zhi Zun Bao. When he encounters the demon sisters Spider Spirit Chun San Shi Niang (Blue Jing Ying) and Bone Spirit Bai Jing Jing (Mavis Fan), he falls in love at first sight with Bai Jing Jing due to a past romance from five hundred years ago. However, after Bodhi Ancestor reveals their demon identities, Zhi Zun Bao leads the bandits in a cat-and-mouse game with the two demons. During the process, Bai Jing Jing injures Chun San Shi Niang to save Zhi Zun Bao and herself becomes poisoned and injured. To save Bai Jing Jing, Zhi Zun Bao goes to find Chun San Shi Niang, but is misunderstood by Bai Jing Jing and, in despair, commits suicide. Zhi Zun Bao then begins to use the Moonlight Treasure Box in hopes of reversing time.
