The story of The Age of Steel begins in the spring of 1948. After the liberation of Anshan Iron and Steel, Shang Tielong (played by Chen Baoguo) and Yang Shoushan (played by Feng Yuanzheng) lead their own teams in a technical competition. Japanese engineer Kadai (played by Matsumine Riri) becomes greatly interested in Shang during her work. During the competition, conflicts arise between Shang Tielong and Yang Shoushan, while Shang's wife, Maicao (played by Jiang Hongbo), mistakenly marries Yang Shoushan while searching for her husband, leading to frequent awkwardness between the two families. Unaware of the circumstances, Kadai asks Maicao to help with matchmaking, but ultimately, her identity as a Japanese national ends this marriage.
