"Transnational Pursuit" is a documentary-style TV drama centered on the theme of anti-corruption and punishment within the prosecution system. "Transnational Pursuit" is inspired by Li Jingtian's report literature "The Unofficial Anti-Corruption Director," meticulously crafted based on its basic prototype. The young prosecutor Li Yaning (initially the leader of a major case team and later the deputy director of the anti-corruption division) discovers during his investigation into the smuggling and bribery case of Hong Kong investor Ye Zongxian that he has spent a huge amount on "business expansion fees," which are actually funds specifically for bribery. Throughout the investigation, he faces continuous strong interference and obstruction. With the clever support of Chief Prosecutor Gong Yuxin, he gradually uncovers a massive network of corruption behind Ye Zongxian, identifying Lu Jianwei, the director of the Municipal Road Bureau (later the deputy director of the Provincial Road Bureau), as the source and core figure of these corrupt activities. However, Lu Jianwei is a political star and a contributor to the economic development of the province and city, which has blinded some key provincial and city leaders, making the investigation difficult. Li Yaning remains steadfast on the bribery case, and faces false accusations of rape, followed by an attempted murder against him. Nonetheless, he assesses the situation and navigates through twists and turns, eventually unearthing Chen Jianji—the biological brother of Lu Jianwei, who is the direct executor of all bribery, murder, and fraud activities, leading to a breakthrough in the investigation. Just as they prepare to arrest Chen Jianji, corrupted elements within the prosecutor's office leak information, allowing Chen Jianji to flee to a Southeast Asian country in political chaos, where obtaining legal extradition support proves impossible. With all evidence of criminal acts resting solely on Chen Jianji, cross-border pursuit becomes a pressing matter. Under limited funding and without any assurance of personal safety, Li Yaning and his comrade Liu Yangchun exit the country as civilians, engaging in a struggle against Chen Jianji, who is under the protection of local mafia. After enduring numerous hardships, they finally capture him, although Liu Yangchun sacrifices his life in the process.
