Tongxin Pharmaceutical is a highly influential private enterprise in Dancheng City. After years of effort, the company's leaders, siblings Tong Xin and Tong Gang, have finally developed a new cancer drug primarily based on traditional Chinese medicine, which has received significant attention from the relevant national authorities and has begun the critical phase of clinical trials. However, someone is secretly coveting this new drug, namely, the owner of Chenyu Pharmaceutical, Xiao ZhenNan. He attempts to acquire the formula for Tong’s new drug and sell it to an overseas organized crime syndicate to escape his impending bankruptcy. At the beginning of the drama, he has already spent a fortune to buy a man named Si Jun to go undercover, but due to Tong's strict management, Si Jun, despite being heavily utilized, ultimately gets exposed and meets a tragic end. Under pressure from the overseas organized crime syndicate, Xiao ZhenNan is forced to let his daughter, Xiao RuoYu, who has just graduated from a prestigious medical school, infiltrate Tongxin Pharmaceutical as a corporate spy. However, after several setbacks, Xiao RuoYu fails to enter the company through normal channels. Xiao ZhenNan meticulously orchestrates a “chance encounter,” making Xiao RuoYu the savior of Tong Gang. As expected, Xiao RuoYu's cheerful and lively personality and her profound knowledge of pharmacology eventually impress Tong Gang. Tong Gang not only hires her into the Tongxin Pharmaceutical research institute but also places her in the core department of new drug development as his assistant. This outcome is exactly what Xiao ZhenNan hopes for. His plan is to use the latest listening and surveillance technology to record relevant information about the new drug formula through the deep contact between his daughter and Tong Gang. Xiao ZhenNan is originally a pharmacologist, and with the partial data provided by Si Jun, he will be able to compile the entire formula. Although no one knows that Xiao RuoYu is a corporate spy (not even Xiao RuoYu herself), the institute's security director, Guan MiaoMiao, has sensed something amiss. Guan MiaoMiao is a friend of Tong Xin and has been in love with Tong Gang, so she tries various ways to investigate the background of the Xiao father-daughter duo and uses Xiao RuoYu's old classmate, Zhao Yan, to make a fuss about Xiao's infatuation, attempting to dissuade Xiao RuoYu. However, due to Xiao ZhenNan's cunning and well-planned strategies, he repeatedly helps Xiao RuoYu evade danger. Guan MiaoMiao does not give up; on one hand, she confuses Xiao ZhenNan with various false fronts, and on the other hand, she lets her ex-boyfriend, Zhou Qiang, infiltrate Xiao ZhenNan's company as an undercover agent to thoroughly investigate him. Feeling threatened, Xiao ZhenNan seizes on a mistake made by Guan MiaoMiao in her youth to blackmail her, attempting to turn her into his spy; yet Guan MiaoMiao remains unmoved and cleverly turns the tables, almost exposing him in front of Tong Xin. With no other option, Xiao ZhenNan resorts to a desperate move; he uses Zhou Qiang as leverage to frame Guan MiaoMiao, forcing her to take her own life to prove her innocence. With the obstacle removed, but under strict orders from the syndicate, Xiao ZhenNan no longer has time to execute his original plan, so he decides to lay his cards on the table with Xiao RuoYu, telling her to directly steal the new drug formula. To persuade his daughter, he must reveal two pieces of backstory: first, that his Chenyu Pharmaceutical is on the brink of bankruptcy because the formula for an anti-cancer drug he spent years and all his resources developing was actually stolen by Tong Xin and Tong Gang's father, Tong Tianshu, and that the new drug from Tongxin Pharmaceutical is developed from his original formula; second, that Xiao RuoYu is not his biological daughter but was adopted from an orphanage when she was young. Shocked, Xiao RuoYu decides to repay her father’s nurturing kindness and seek justice for him. However, Xiao ZhenNan and Xiao RuoYu do not realize that after Guan MiaoMiao's death, Tong Xin has become highly vigilant towards them. To test the truth and persuade Tong Gang (who has grown increasingly fond of Xiao RuoYu), she joins forces with Zhou Qiang to conduct a thorough investigation before deciding to lure Xiao RuoYu into a trap. Xiao RuoYu indeed takes action; she seizes the opportunity to download the formula for the new drug from Tong Gang's computer. Tong Gang (who is watching the surveillance monitor with Tong Xin) is utterly shocked upon witnessing this. However, to everyone's surprise (including Xiao ZhenNan and the Tong siblings), after struggling with her thoughts (the genuine feelings Tong Gang has for her make it hard for her to betray him), Xiao RuoYu does not deliver the disc to her father but instead quickly returns it to Tong Gang in a special manner and decides to temporarily leave her family to reflect on her future calmly. But Xiao ZhenNan is too deeply ensnared and has no way out. The syndicate has long since bought off his trusted aide, Shi ZhongGuang, to supervise him, leaving him with no escape route. In order to force Xiao ZhenNan to hand over the formula, the syndicate manages to kidnap Xiao RuoYu, who is alone outside.
