In 1979, in a certain naval unit. The marriage of the old leader Liu Zhengwei's (Gao Bo) daughter Liu Fangfang (Gong Xue), who is of marrying age, attracts the attention of Wei Xia (Gao Cui). She reviews personnel files and ultimately selects Shen Zhiyuan (Guo Kaimin) from a research institute.
