This film is the fourth installment in Truffaut's famous "Antoine Series." 25-year-old Antoine (Jean-Pierre Léaud) marries Christine (Claude Jade) and opens a charming little flower shop downstairs, beloved by their neighbors. Although life is ordinary, it is filled with small sorrows and small joys. By a twist of fate, he lands a job at a water company, where he meets the aloof Japanese woman, Kyoko (Hiroko Berghauer), and is deeply attracted to her exotic charm. The two fall in love, and soon he separates from Christine. However, living with the Eastern beauty makes him increasingly nostalgic for Christine due to the huge cultural differences.
