Although wealthy, Sam (Walter Huston) is unhappy. His relationship with his wife, Fran (Ruth Chatterton), is strained; Fran yearns for a life full of excitement. To satisfy her desires, Sam takes Fran on a journey to Europe. Along the way, Fran meets a handsome baron and ruthlessly abandons Sam to be with him.
