The twenty-episode TV series "Deep in the Wine Alley" tells the story of the famous liquor Jiangyang Laojiao in Luzhou, Sichuan Province (formerly known as Jiangyang) during the early years of the Republic of China. After enduring hardships, the liquor flourished through the blood and sweat of several generations of distillers. The protagonist, Lu Yunqiang, is the illegitimate son of the owner of the Wanli Distillery, which possesses a 300-year-old national treasure of Ming Jiao. As a child, he suffered bullying from the legitimate family and lived a life of hardship with his birth mother until he journeyed far away. After his mother passed away, he returned to his hometown, only to find the family’s fortune declined and the ancestral liquor business owned by others. To restore his family business, Lu Yunqiang changed his name and disguised himself. He worked as a laborer in one of the two large distilleries in Jiangyang City, Qian Guquan Fang, and through his intelligence, gained the trust and favor of the old manager Gu Tianci. Possessing extraordinary skills, he saved the Gu family several times from crises using his ancestral brewing techniques and martial arts learned in his youth. Ultimately, he was promoted to head of the tile department and even married into the family. However, Gu Tianci had no idea that all of this was part of Lu Yunqiang's meticulous plan to reclaim his family's heritage after enduring humiliation and hardship. At the same time, there were fierce rivalries among the distilleries in Jiangyang City for the old cellar market, leading to both overt and covert conflicts. Tianyi Fang, a government-run distillery, was run by the cunning and treacherous manager Hou Jingru, who resorted to despicable tactics to crush his competition. He secretly bought the tiles from the Gu family and manipulated the brewing materials to prevent them from producing liquor, thus achieving his goals. Coupled with the local feudal forces and the collusion between warlords and bureaucrats, the conflicts in the industry intensified. Meanwhile, the Japanese were also eyeing the national treasure old cellar and had planted deep spies in Jiangyang to monitor the local brewing scene and acquire the ancient brewing secrets. They colluded with local traitors, waiting for the right moment to strike and potentially move the national treasure to the East. To prevent the old cellar from falling into Japanese hands and to promote the revival of this national industry, Lu Yunqiang ultimately decided to sacrifice his personal interests for the greater good. He set aside previous grievances and stood alongside patriots in Jiangyang City to fight against local bullies and Japanese commercial spies, enduring blood and tears in fierce battles. In the end, he preserved the heritage of the national cellar that had lasted for 300 years, while also leading Jiangyang Laojiao to win a qualification to display its excellence at the Panama International Exhibition, ultimately receiving a gold medal and returning in glory. The fragrance of the wine fears not the depth of the alley; Jiangyang Laojiao thus became famous throughout the world. Accompanying the fragrant wine are unique characters dedicated to the revival of national industry: the resilient male protagonist; the independent new woman; the passionate Sichuan opera star; the complex warlord—each playing their part in creating the national cellar's heavenly fragrance. Time passes, dynasties change, and Lu Yunqiang's peers have grown old, with their descendants now standing by the brewing pots. Yet, the four national treasure Ming Jiao still emanates the fragrance of Chinese culture.
