The story takes place in 1905, during the massacre of the Shi family in Fengcheng by the underworld group Gui Xiaotang. Twenty-four years later, a master from Tianpu Temple is also killed by Gui Xiaotang, leaving clues that guide his lay disciple, Shangguan Yunfeng (played by Zhu Yilong), to seek the legendary treasure of Yuan Chonghuan. In the process of tracking the treasure, Shangguan Yunfeng uncovers the mystery of his own identity; he turns out to be the only survivor of the Shi family massacre, being the youngest son of the Shi family, and the treasure map is drawn on his back. However, his biological mother, who has just been reunited with him, is kidnapped by Gui Xiaotang's people, who threaten him to hand over the treasure in exchange for her safety. Shangguan Yunfeng faces a difficult choice: to abandon national righteousness and give the treasure to the underworld for his mother's safety, or to uphold his principles and keep the treasure, regardless of his mother's safety.
