The story takes place in London in 1910. Mr. Banks (played by David Tomlinson) is a bank employee, while Mrs. Banks (played by Glynis Johns) is passionately involved in the women's rights movement. Caught up in their work, the couple neglects their two children, Michael (played by Matthew Garber) and Jane (played by Karen Dotrice), so they hire a nanny.
