The story takes place in London in 1910. Mr. Banks (played by David Tomlinson) is a bank employee, while Mrs. Banks (played by Glynis Johns) is passionately involved in the women's rights movement. Caught up in their work, the couple neglects their two children, Michael (played by Matthew Garber) and Jane (played by Karen Dotrice), so they hire a nanny. However, what they don't realize is that this quirky brother and sister are far from ordinary and are much more than an ordinary nanny can handle! A beautiful young woman named Mary (played by Julie Andrews) arrives at the Banks' home to apply for the nanny position, and she makes a lasting impression on Michael and Jane from the moment she appears. As it turns out, Mary is a magical figure, and her arrival allows the two children to feel the warmth of family and friendship again, while also helping Mr. and Mrs. Banks understand what truly matters in life.
