Natalie (played by Isabelle Huppert) is a philosophy teacher who has been married to her husband Hans (played by André Marcon) for several decades. They have raised two children together and live a peaceful and fulfilling life. One day, Hans suddenly confesses to Natalie that he has a lover outside their marriage and intends to move out of the house to live with her. Although Natalie pretends to be calm on the surface, she is deeply hurt internally. Natalie’s mother (played by Edith Scob) was once a popular model but is now suffering from depression, having attempted suicide multiple times. Out of desperation, Natalie has to go against her mother's wishes and places her in a nursing home. Meanwhile, Natalie follows the advice of her former student Fabian (played by Roman Kolinka) and goes to the commune he has established in the mountains with his friends.
