In 1949, on the eve of the liberation of New China, the Central Committee made the wise decision to send a million troops across the Yangtze River. After crossing the river, they destroyed the presidential palace and liberated Nanjing, paving the way for the liberation of all of China. Behind this significant historical event were countless loyal guards who sacrificed their lives and blood. The 25-episode television series "The Great Divide: 1949," a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the nation by the China Television Artists Association, unfolds against this backdrop.

Starring Tao Zeru
Famous actor Gao Fa, who has appeared in works like "General Ye Ting," "Defending Yan'an," and "Emperor Wu of Han," plays Xiao Jianqiu, the senior intelligence officer hidden within the enemy ranks. Tao Zeru, whose prominent status as an "acting veteran" is established through numerous films and television dramas like "Life Show," "Red Lovers," and "Order of Jiangcheng," portrays Nationalist spy Zhou Peixi. It is said that the two have had a friendship for over twenty years off-screen, yet their relationship in the drama remains in a "stalemate" state, one exuding righteous spirit while the other is cunning and calculating, showcasing a contest between "justice" and "evil," recreating the turbulent historical landscape just before the founding of New China in 1949.
The producer of "The Great Divide: 1949" once remarked: "This drama was decided to have Gao Fa play the lead not only because of his tall and handsome appearance but also because he possesses a strong manly and heroic charisma. His demeanor is low-key, yet a warm tenderness stirs within him. This is precisely the quality that Xiao Jianqiu embodies." Gao Fa indeed presents a performance that balances tension and relaxation. His deep love for comrades, intense hatred for enemies, and restraint regarding personal feelings are all portrayed with great accuracy and moderation—exciting yet nuanced.
Additionally, Hu Ke plays the intriguing military intelligence female agent Yan Yi in "The Great Divide: 1949." Hu Ke stated that before shooting, she underwent special training to practice military skills such as shooting and combat techniques, aiming to portray this complex character perfectly.
